Are you a lame duck?
In Proverbs 1:17, the Lord had written “How useless to spread a net in full view of all the birds!” Proverbs has always been one of my favorite books of the Bible because it almost forces relationship. You can’t easily come to conclusions about Proverbs. That goes against their very nature. You have to sit and think. Oftentimes that thinking sends you on a quest through the Bible to find what God has already said to do in certain circumstances. Should I write off more than I am supposed to on my taxes? Proverbs 13:5. Should I get a tattoo? Leviticus 19:28. The Bible has an answer for life’s questions great and small. I especially love Proverbs 1:17, because it reminds me of this. There are no traps with God. He has already provided answers to every question that we will encounter in this life. He has liberated us from the being trapped in the net of sin. He has saved us from being a lame duck. A lame duck cannot fly and sin is frequently the net that traps us. When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God. (Galatians 5:19-21) But when we are in relationship with God, when we know him through the text, through prayer, through relationship, he shows us the ways to avoid the sin. Then sin because not a trap but an opportunity to show obedience to God’s law, so that he can lift you up and let you fly.

Thx Ashley…great word. I loved how you stated… not a trap but an opportunity to show obedience to God’s law, so that he can lift you up and let you fly. Really appreciate your perspective and challenge this AM. Take care, Doug
You are definitely right about reading the proverbs and actually having to think.
“sin is not a trap but an opportunity to show obedience to God’s law” every obstacle is an opportunity, every temptation, God doesn’t tempt us but allows the temptation to come, not to tear us down but to build us up and He be glorified.
Good post Ashley
