Can you hear me now?

We’ve all seen the little guy on the telephone company commercial walking around with his cell phone saying, “Can you hear me now?” Then he walks a few steps and repeats the words, “Can you hear me now?” I love that clip so much. I laugh every time. (Ok, I’m easily amused.) Many times I wonder if God is aware of what is going on in my life. Sometimes I may find myself asking the question, just to be sure. How silly I can be. Of course I know that God is in control of my life.

I think here in this verse James is not simply saying that a salvation prayer will produce the sought after healing in this verse. He’s talking about a vow of commitment to change one’s ways. Some would say, Oh, that’s too much! I can’t give that much! Why not? Jesus gave everything for us. He gave everything He had for us. Nothing I give to Him will be able to compare to what He gave for me. Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Doesn’t He deserve my all?

This verse also ties in with James 4:2 the very last part: “You do not have because you do not ask. 3.Or you do ask God for them, and yet fail to receive, because you ask with wrong purpose, and selfish motives.” God answers our prayers. Sometimes we must continue faithfully waiting and praying some more, other times He decides we have waited enough. But God answers always! Pretty amazing stuff right?!
For me this verse refers to the faith of people praying not of the sick person, and that faith does not heal, but yet God heals. He often heals in ways we don’t expect, or even want at times. Ever love someone so much you would do anything for them? Especially if a loved one was hurting and dying and has passed? I would much preferred He healed my loved one here, on earth, but nonetheless my loved one is healed, according to God’s will.
