Yes, the Lord, He is God and He still works miracles
This is an Ultimate Showdown! On Mount Carmel, Elijah, God’s prophet and representative vs Ahab and 850 prophets of Baal and Asherah. The audience, the Children of Israel. The challenge: Whose God will rain fire from heaven ? The drama unfolds as the false gods appear to have fallen asleep, Elijah drenches his altar with water, and prays for God to let Himself be known. God rains down fire from heaven, consumes the sacrifice, wood, stones and dust and licked up the water!!! When the people saw this, they fell on their faces and declared, “The Lord He is God!!”
Do you ever wish God would do some kind of miracle like that for you or through you? Then you would REALLY believe, and others around you would believe too. But, God is doing something even grander. He is changing hearts! “Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove your heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.” (Ezekiel 36:26). What really was the greater miracle of this story, that God rained fire from heaven or that Elijah, with all his human frailties, could have a relationship with the Almighty God and be used by Him?
God is doing one of these Mighty Miracles today! As I contemplate the text today, God continues to challenge and stretch my faith to use me in service for Him. Years ago when I was a sinner, an enemy and helpless; Christ loved me, chose me, and died for me. Over forty years, He has been transforming my stony heart, slowly but surely softening its hard edges, until today I find myself praying that somehow, in my new home and church community, through His transforming power and His grace, God can, in some way, use me as His vessel so that someone can see His love and say,” the Lord, He is God”. That would truly be a miracle of miracles!
