Don’t look to be lifted up by Man!
Let’s look at the word “Humble”. What exactly does that word mean? Where does it come from and how can we apply it to our Christian walk? Well the word “Humble” according to one commentary is tapeinothete in Greek and it means to cause something to be lower or to make low so can make ourselves lower. Well when you look at the entire verse it really tells us. Make yourself lower in the sight of the Lord. Well we are lower than the Lord so that is a given but I think it is talking about more than that. This verse speaks to the heart of the Christian. It is about not boasting about what we do to further the Kingdom. We are to be humble about what we do. This very is more of an order from God than a request. It is also an awesome promise. God promise that if are humble he will lift us up. Well lift us from where and to what? Some translations say “exalt” but whether it is lift or exalt it all means the same to give a kind of happiness or even to be free from trouble. So our life’s practical application is to work for the Lord with humility and you will be much happier and in a much better place. So do the work that God has called you to do and don’t look too lifted up by man but wait for God to lift you up.

Hi Loary, I started the morning kinda rough this morning, kid missed the bus, running late for school, driving to work this morning with an empty tank thinking “please don’t let me run out of gas”,only having 1 dollar to my name, then running to get into the office on time. I got to my desk saying “good morning without making a glance or a smile at anyone. Then I realized maybe I was choosing to not have a great day. I said aloud “today is going to be a Great Day”.
I then proceeded to check my email to see Loary Coates and thought, that name sounds very familiar. I really enjoyed your post, it was very helpful for my mood this morning. I will continue on my day with a humble spirit. I used to live in a neighborhood for many years where your husband Chuck Coates worked, one of the most caring and humble sprited people I have ever met.
Thanks you much Mrs. Coates
Morning Loary,
Great post!
A reminder that it is all about the Lord, that He takes the gifts that He has given us to touch the lives of others.
Weither it is writing, counselling, serving a meal or just taking the time to listen we get to be part of what He is doing.
Thank you for sharing!
