Are you crazy?!

What in the world is Elijah thinking? He’s out of his mind—standing alone against 450 prophets of Baal. He could’ve at least asked Obadiah where he could find the 100 prophets of the Lord so that they could stand with him. But though they did not bow their knee to Baal they may have feared for their life. So Elijah stood alone. “I alone am left a prophet of the Lord…” he boldly declared. But we all know he wasn’t truly alone. He had the Lord by his side—more so, deep within his being.

There was no turning back. Yet perhaps with a stern face and a pounding heart, Elijah stood boldly before hundreds of idol worshipers and humbly before the Lord in a moment of great challenge. If the spirit of Baal prove to be true…there would be great shame and even possible death for Elijah and the rest of the prophets of the Lord. If the Spirit of the Lord proves to be true…great glory, wonder, and righteous fear among the people of Israel.

Questions that comes to mind is would I be up for the challenge or would I even make that challenge?

In all honesty I would say ‘no’ with obvious indifference towards those who believe in and live in pagan lifestyles. If they want to live in their lusts—let them die in their lusts. That’s their choice….

(Oh Lord, help my unbelief. Today trade my indifference and passiveness for passion and compassion. You where crazy about me—how could I not be crazy about you? Even in my choosing you did not let me die in my sins. You stood before legions of demons and proved them wrong and redeemed my life from their grip. You are the ‘Elijah’ of my heart—pouring waters of grace upon me and then blazing your flame of love upon me as well.)

And the reality is, the challenge that Elijah had is also before us everyday. Yet we are not to prove He exist by great miracles and fireworks to be displayed before many people—he’ll get to that soon enough. The Lord does not need us to prove His existence but we need to show ourselves approved by Him. We need to get out from hiding in our safe caves and worship the One who shows Himself to be true in us and through us for His fame not ours.

So even if all odds are against you and your altars be drenched—worship and pray to the Lord—the One who proves Himself to be true and sets ablaze those who seek to worship Him in Spirit and truth.
