A rose is a rose…..
Boy am I in trouble. If this verse is true in it’s simplicity I am just toast. You wouldn’t know it to look at me but I can display a fiery temper at times. Ask Jon and (I am sorry to say) Abby and they can confirm what you may not see on the outside to be true. It would be easy to blame these very ‘unreligious’ words and actions on my heritage. With Irish, Scottish, and Cherokee Indian all contained in this personality, how else am I supposed to act? But, God sees right though this argument. He gets to the heart of the matter. In fact, I believe this verse is all about the heart. And to be truthful, when my heart is seeking God, these negative displays of the heart are absent. We all have to struggle with the desires of our fleshly nature and the spiritual nature made clean by Christ’s blood. My struggle is greatest in negative thoughts that tend, at times, to come out unfiltered in words and actions. Because of God’s grace I can have faith that my religion, while sometimes flawed, is not “hot air”. Each day I can rise again to not talk a good game but live for my Lord who has set me free. Hard to wrap my head around this but I am going to accept it on faith. Much better than toast any day.
