Running with Endurance
Summer is here! One of the best attributes of summer is the fact that we are that much closer to football season. I have the honor and joy of coaching at Osborne High School again this season; we recently began our summer workouts and they are grueling. The hours are demanding, for the athletes as well as the staff; we even have had many players quit, due to the strenuousness of the routine. Last week I had the opportunity to hang out with one of my player’s one on one and we began to talk about how long and hard a season can be. Quickly I was reminded of one of my favorite verses, a verse that got me through many valleys in my Christian walk. Hebrews 12:1-2 “Therefore since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders us and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” We must have endurance in this life, if we are going to be the good soil, like in Luke 8:15. I loved what Cumberland posted on their Facebook page on Wednesday of last week, (When you wake up, think: “My purpose is to _______” , When you lay down for the day, think: “I am thankful for _____”) What a great message, let us run the race with perseverance because Christ joyfully endured the cross for us!
