What’s the Fuss?
We have a little phrase in our house when someone is crying without apparent reason (yes, Grayson – I’m talking about you!). We say, “Hey! What’s the fuss?” Loosely translated, “What’s the fuss” means “You are fed, clothed, cared for, and generally speaking all your needs are met. So why are you crying?”
Jesus says the same thing to us in Matthew 6:25 – 34. Why are you worried about what you will eat and what you will wear? What good will your worrying do? Basically it boils down to the million-dollar question: Do you trust God to take care of you?
Yes! Of course I trust God to take care of me! But do you really trust Him?
For me it’s almost easy to trust when faced with a big decision…like whether or not to change jobs or dealing with a family crisis. But I very rarely trust Him with my grocery list. Recently our family income was reduced and trusting Him to take care of our basic needs has become a daily exercise. These days when I start over crunching the numbers in my head, I look around at the birds and the grass, and it’s as if God is saying to me, “Hey Jaime, what’s the fuss?”

Jaime, thanks for the reminder to “seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” If we are not seeking him then we can so easily fill that void with worry and place our focus on whatever happens to be in front of us at that moment, which is only temporal and not everlasting. Appreciate your words this morning!

A few moments ago I prayed, “Lord take all the “noise” (fuss) out of my head and let me concentrate on what is important today. Your reminder that all my needs are met so why cry is exactly what I needed for today.
Thank you.
Straight from/to the heart… thanks Jaime.
Love this! I, too, can trust God with the “big” but rarely give him control over the daily worries, like grocery budgets. Thanks for the reminder!
love the phrase “what’s the fuss” will everyone understand this if I abbreviate and put this on my facebook page!? :0
Love it…thanks so much Mz. Hilton. I too will likely use the “what’s the fuss” phrase on myself at some point very soon. Thanks for cutting through the noise of words and thoughts easily relatable story and a very repeatable phrase. (And BTW Alan, I would suggest you not abbreviate it on FaceBook…or anywhere else for that matter.) Thanks Jaime…Doug
