Graduation Time!

This is graduation week for Cobb county high schools. Many graduation parties are being planned…seniors are talking about what their fall plans are, where they’re going, and where they’ve been accepted.

Beginning well as a freshman or even beginning well this semester was very important to each of them, but finishing well was crucial! The final list of who will graduate wasn’t printed until all finals were scored last Friday. It’s tough to accept, but if you didn’t pass this semester’s finals, you don’t get to graduate this week.

There is a correlation to our spiritual graduation…the most important graduation of all ~ graduation from our temporary life here on earth to our eternal destination. I think about 1 Corinthians 1:8, where Paul tells us, “He will keep you strong to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

I’ve had the privilege to attend several funerals, which were truly graduation celebrations…send-offs to heaven! A precious woman of God, who was one of my mentors, asked that Revelation 2:10 be shared at her funeral, “Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life.” She had lived out her last years in a lot of pain, but she never wavered in her faithfulness to our Lord. My Dad’s funeral was another one of these bittersweet send-offs. He was totally confident in God’s promises that were waiting for him and lived his life to please his Heavenly Father.

As we live our lives here on earth, we need to keep the end in mind.
