Resist the Devil

Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.
Ephesians 6:11

I received this e-mail from very good friends of mine last week:

“We got news last night that ________________took his life yesterday.  It’s shocking and devastating as he left behind a wife who was his high school sweetheart and two wonderful daughters. He had an amazing relationship with his girls—they completely adored him. He was a very successful business owner.  I’m not sure if he left a note and don’t know too many details, but apparently he said it was for ‘financial reasons.’ He was only 43.”

First of all, this fine Christian man is in heaven today. Do not believe the fable that suicide is an unforgivable sin. “The blood of Christ cleanses us from all our sin.”

However, suicide is the ultimate in the devil’s schemes.

1 Peter 5:7-9
“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith.”

The devil is always constantly looking for someone to devour—his ultimate scheme is to so discourage someone and fill their mind with lies that they take their life. The only way to resist this is to give all our anxious thoughts over to God through prayer and put on the armor of God every day (Ephesians 6:10-16).
