Membership Has Its Privileges
There is a local hangout for the guys in my hometown once they cross over into manhood, and reach the age of “legal.” Our B.P.O.E. Lodge number 77 is a members-only establishment…a male, members-only establishment. They pay dues, they have meetings, there is board of directors, but I think mostly it is just about the cheap beer and good conversation. I remember initially being put off by not having the ability to be included in this exclusive membership. Somehow, when you CAN’T join, it makes joining all that more alluring. I did get wise as I got older, though, and realized that membership at the local Elks Lodge maybe wasn’t all that great of a membership after all.
But there are memberships that are worth it. When you are a member of the body of Christ, membership has its privileges. You are fed and you are cared for. Jesus Christ cares for you. You are a part of His body and He takes great care of His body. Christ loves the church. He loves the members of His body. He loves that we are part of Him. Husbands are to follow the lead of Jesus and care and love their wives like He loves the members of His body, like He loves the church. How is Jesus caring for you today? How do you know you are loved as a member of His body?
