April Fool’s Day

It is April Fool’s Day, and our passage for today is:

“Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.” – Ephesians 5:24

And this is not a April Fool’s Joke…

The first half of this passage is not too much of a problem. Christ went to the cross for us, so we can ‘try’ to submit to him since he has done so much for us. The second half of this passage can seem to be more problematic. Depending on which side we fall, we either ignore it or we have bummer stickers made and post them everywhere.

If we are honest, I think both halves of this passage are really a struggle. A friend of mine, describes this a lot better that I can:

“Obedience to Jesus is the heart of what it means to be His disciple. Unfortunately there is an epidemic of disobedience in the Church. Today many believers are not choosing a kingdom lifestyle. Instead, they reflect the lifestyle of our culture. It is becoming more and more difficult to distinguish the life of the believer from the life of the unbeliever.” – Mark Nysewander

As humans, we struggle to submit. We tend to hide our God submission struggles, and we attempt to justify our human submission struggles.

Today, can we follow Jesus completely?
