Hungry For…
I just watched the documentary Food, Inc.(2008) today. Have you seen this yet? Are you aware that our Nation’s food supply is controlled by only a handful of corporations that are willing to trade profit over consumer health? It’s a pretty eye-opening film, and I am sure its success has made some pretty huge waves among the FDA, and has most likely contributed to the “organic” craze and buying “local.” Although I’ve been jumping on the bandwagon myself and often buy local and organic foods, I never really knew why? I just kind of went along with the rest of culture and decided to buy it here and there because it’s the popular thing these days.
However, true healthy eating requires one important factor; knowledge. This means consistent research, eating foods as close to nature as possible, and being wise about ingredients and food labels. Now that I understand what is going on with the food industry, I can be more responsible about what I am buying and putting into my body.
So how does Ephesians 5:17 fit into eating healthy? Well, the verse says, “Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.” How do we understand the Lord’s will? By reading his Word, of course. Just like eating, we can be foolish with our lives in other ways too; living and doing what we want and when we want. Eventually we’ll end up unfulfilled and “unhealthy.” It’s sad that so many people are not fulfilling the will of the Lord, but it does not have to be this way. If you do not know God’s will, the wonderful truth is that you can know it, and this passage of scripture will tell you how. It’s all about receiving knowledge from the right source (God’s Word) and being His disciple.

This struck a chord – How do we know God’s will? Years ago, at another church, I met a man who was “seeking God’s will about what ministry I should go into.” He told me he was having no success in the search, and he’d reached the end of his resources. He had quit a very good job because he wasn’t “fulfilled” and wanted to devote all his time to prayer and fasting about his ministry, and to hear from GOD. Problem was he had a wife and family that he had once been able to support but now he wasn’t.
I pointed out to him teachings in the Bible, and that he had missed an essential one, that his first ministry was to take care of his family, and that if he did not work he should not expect GOD to feed him. He wasn’t happy we talked.
There is everything right about praying and fasting for GOD’s guidance. There is everything wrong about praying and fasting while ignoring GOD’s will plainly written down.
Thanks Kacy this is a good reminder of being in the word of God. This is our nutrition and road map for life. But how about a bag of potato chips once in awhile:)
