Be Prepared
What do you do before you go to the grocery store? I would imagine you make a list of the things you need to purchase. This speeds up the whole process and helps you to remember everything. You are much more prepared.
Say you decided to run a half marathon in the spring. You would definitely need a training program. You may even find a running partner or coach to help you train. The program would include days of running, speed work, weight training, stretching, and even rest. All of these things, when done on a specific schedule, would help you prepare to run your best possible race. There is that word again.
Sure, I can do my shopping without a list. It will probably be frustrating, may even take a little longer. I could even attempt a long race with little or no training. But why would I even want to try? I most likely will fail to finish and may even get injured.
It’s interesting to read this verse from end to beginning. To build up the body of Christ, there is work to be done by God’s people. But first, they must be prepared. It sure can be tempting to dive right in to the work itself. That is something tangible for us to see, touch, hear, etc. But to begin by praying, listening, worshipping, and reading the Word, well, that would truly make us prepared.
