Hand in Hand
I grew up going to church. There were certain things we did every Sunday. We would recite the Apostle’s Creed. We would all recite the Lord’s Prayer after the preacher said his prayer. We would sing the first, second, and fourth verses of a couple of hymns. I’m not sure what we had against that third verse, but we never seemed to sing it. And we would sing the doxology. I never really thought about what a doxology actually was until now. So I looked it up. It is an expression of praise to God. Verse 21 is a doxology. And what a powerful one it is. God is calling for praise, honor, and distinction not only in Jesus ,which is a given, but also the church. That’s quite a parallel. The church is right there with Jesus, just like a bride should be. They go hand in hand. You can’t have one without the other. This is the kind of verse I need to let soak in for a while. The church is not a building. The church is not a place to hang out on a Sunday for a couple of hours. The church is there to glorify God. And who is the church? Well, that is you and me. That’s a pretty amazing calling.

Let me guess, Ben…Presbyterian? Sounds all too familiar. Thanks for helping me see those once ritualistic verses as much more than….MA
If you had sung the 3rd verse too, dinner would’ve been over-cooked.
Thanks for your thoughts. Gotta go. I smell chicken.
