Praise Him Praise Him All Ye Little Children…

Hmmmm… “predestined”. Did we choose Him or did He choose us?

I have to confess, I’ve NEVER struggled over this question. Call it intellectual laziness. Call it passive resignation. I won’t mind. Not over this question, anyway. I guess I prefer to take on projects I can actually accomplish. Harry Callahan said it best, “a man’s got to know his limitations.”

In this chapter of Ephesians I’m wondering if this is exactly the point. How many times do we read “in Christ”, or “with Christ”, or “through Christ”… a preposition followed by the Object. According to my dictionary a preposition usually indicates the “temporal, spatial or logical relationship of its object to the rest of the sentence as in the following examples:

The book is on the table.
The book is beneath the table.”
I am in Christ, way over my head, and the magnitude of His grace toward me is beyond my ability to reason.

It is because of our relationship to Him, the object of our faith and worship, that we praise.

God has a plan that He has known for all eternity. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” – Jer. 19:11

So is it all about you and me, and the great stuff we get as heirs to the Kingdom? Nope. And THAT’S a good thing. It’s “in order that we… might be to the praise of his glory”. It’s all about HIM!!

So if you ever find yourself up against a circumstance, facing your private dragon, or wrestling difficult doctrine into reasonableness, try to remember that He has the plan that is not always apparent or reasonable to us. He has only good intentions for you and I. He knows the beginning from the end, and we are in Him. That’s a good place to be. He is praised by our position in, through and by Him. And we praise him…
