Because He Wanted To

At this stage of life parenting requires a lot of time and energy. I am sometimes surprised at how much, but then realize that kind of thinking comes from my own selfishness. Most of us never begin to fully appreciate all that has been intentionally poured into, sacrificed and prepared for us until we are on the giving end. I’m still growing in that appreciation. Fatherhood has added a dimension to my walk as a believer that I couldn’t grasp beforehand. I used to quickly skim Matthew 7:9-11. Now, as a father, I understand how much I want to give my children, and begin to gain the smallest understanding of how much God wants to give me. To then read today’s passage gives me even more confidence in how God sees me and what He has done for me.

Whether you are a parent or not, these verses powerfully demonstrate how intentional God has been in His relationship with us through all time. Where we stand with Him through Christ is not by chance, but by His clear choice and action.

He chose us before the creation of the world – before He even began the great work of creating the amazing world in which we live.

He chose us to be His children – predestined for adoption to sonship.

He chose to redeem us – make us holy and blameless in his sight. He knew that we would utterly fail on our own, that He wants to be with us, and that this is what it would take.

He did this because it made Him happy and it’s what He wanted – in accordance with his pleasure and will.

So have faith in your incredible standing with God when you accept His gifts planned, prepared, and waiting for you since before time.
