Sometimes your brain gets in the way of you thinking!

Now before you commit me to the asylum for my above title, allow me to explain. As some of you may know, Cumberland has just finished one of its 24/7 prayer weeks. Our small group decided that we should definitely be a part of this. We spent just over one hour at the church, in silence just praying. Now I am not sure how many of you are like me but to turn my brain off from all of the so called “important things” in my life is quite a task. I spend so much brain power on things like job, family and sports (Yes I know I put sports with job and family but hey, I am just being honest). During this time, I was able to turn my brain off from all of those aspects and concentrate on my relationship with God. I sat in front of the cross in the prayer room and delved into the last chapters of Matthew and was reminded of all that was given for ME! I then began to pray. I have prayed many times but this time was so very different. I was alone, not with my thoughts, but with my Lord. Prayer means “Communication with God.” I have to tell you that my head has never been so clear. Alan stated last week that we want God to show up seven days a week and we barely give him one. I thought about that. If I trained really hard for one hour a week, could a run a marathon? No one would ever think that is a tangible way to reach your goal. So why do most of us think that way about our faith? I will tell you that this prayer time truly changed my life and I invite everyone reading this to clear your head when you pray because “sometimes your brain gets in the way of you thinking.” Spend this time TRULY THINKING about what is important. TRULY THINK about your relationship with God and what it means to you. I pray that you will be as touched and as changed as I was!
