Prayer

Prayer: Who’s got time for it? As I sit at my computer and see that my email inbox has just exceeded 900 messages. I’m overwhelmed by the thought of how long it will take to sort through them, especially knowing I’m already fairly busy. Most of the emails are from retail stores or services advertising the newest greatest products or services that I must “buy now,” “before it’s too late” and the deal is “gone forever.” The truth is, I like most of these stores and enjoy seeing their products. They do give me some kind of temporary pleasure and, therefore, I tolerate the mass email ads. However, I know none of it will give me the everlasting peace I’m truly yearning for.

Knowing Jesus, I realize something interesting. He’s waiting…not sending me tons of junk emails reminding me to act now. He’s not robo-calling me to gain my vote. He’s not competing with the world in distracting me to choose Him over other forms of pleasure. He’s waiting. There is something noble in knowing that eventually, we will all find our spiritual needs not being met by these worldly things, and when that time comes, He’ll be there waiting for us.

Prayer: Who’s got time for it?  He does.
