Back To The Future
Yes, the iconic movie is now 25 years old. But this has nothing to do with that. It’s about a tough decision I had to make recently…to step away from something that has been a major part of my “walk” for the past 3 years. Something that I have let too much of “myself” get in the way of…to the point that now I feel like a “resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.”
So, how can I get back to the point of “serving joyously” in this part of my walk with The Lord? I have to go back to the future. No, I don’t mean jumping into a DeLorean with a flux capacitor and high jacked plutonium. I need to hang out with the kids. Seriously, Paul says in verse 11 “When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me.” To get back on the path, I need to go back there…to see and experience faith in God through the eyes of child. I do not want to be that “poor reflection” in the mirror Paul talks about…The Heavenly Father doesn’t see me that way, so I don’t want to feel that way. Now be honest with yourself, you’ve felt this too, haven’t you? So the next time you see me serving in Kid’s Ministry, I’m not just there helping out…I’m learning…a refresher course if you may…from the kids…our future. Come in and hang out if you like, God has some pretty amazing things to show us all about faith, love, and hope…through the eyes of a child.

Thanks for the great reminder. As I goto work today I go to learn, to see life through the 3rd graders eyes.
Thanks Jon for your message today. It is very refreshing to spend time with our kids and experience life as they see it. There’s definitely no shortage of opportunities to do this at Cumberland. Great reminder!
