Life’s a Beach

When I was young, I used to vacation with my family at the beach. I was always super excited to leave my landlocked life behind and embark on our magical journey to enjoy the surf, sand, and sea. It really threw me for a loop to find out that people actually LIVED at the beach. I thought the sole purpose of having a beach was for people to visit it on vacation, kind of like an amusement park. Ironically, I moved to the beach when I was in high school! What strikes me is the dichotomy between visiting the beach versus living at the beach. It’s a very different mindset.

Our small group participated in the 24/7 Prayer vigil at Cumberland recently. In the prayer room was a verse that talked about dwelling in the house of the Lord forever. The Hebrew word for dwell means to sit down, remain, inhabit, abide, settle. David’s desire was to dwell in the house of the Lord forever, permanently. Do you have the same mindset? Or do you prefer to go on vacation in the house of the Lord from time to time yet live in a different place? Think about where your dwelling place is. Where is your heart? I’m not a big fan of clichés, but I’m going to use one in summary: Home is where the heart is!
