Today’s Weather Forecast: Cloudy, with a chance of tribulations

PALM TREES ARE FLEXIBLE: The palm tree bends rather than breaking. Monsoon storms and hurricanes can blow most trees away, but not the palm tree. Why? Because it’s flexible. It can bend all the way to the ground, and when the storm is over it straightens up again and continue to grow stronger.

THE PALM TREE BREAKS THE BANDS: If you put a band around an oak tree, as the tree grows the band digs and chokes into the wood. Not the palm tree. The palm tree breaks the bands as it grows. As children of God we have the victory through Christ. We do not have to continue in sin: Romans 6:1-2, 6,11-14. We do not have to let the bands of sin dig into us, we can break the bands.

THE PALM TREE FLOURISHES IN THE DESERT: The roots of the palm tree go deep below the surface digging deep for the water to sustain its life. As children of God, we have to look to our deep roots, Jesus, to survive the storms of life. To go deep, we need to become prayer warriors, 1 Thessalonians’ 5:17 says, “Pray without ceasing.” We cannot flourish if we are seeking nourishment on the surface, we must dig deeper!

A GROUP OF PALM TREES FORMS AN OASIS: One palm tree standing alone will not provide much shade. A group of palm trees forms an oasis, or a shelter from the storm. When we group ourselves together in the church, and community groups, we provide shade for each other and those that are weaker. Hebrews 10:25

Take home message:

You were made to bend, not break. God promises to give you ‘…strength that endures the unendurable and spills over into joy’ (Colossians 1:11 TM). The unfolding of God’s amazing plan for your life will happen as you show your ability to endure. God’s plan for you is to go deep, stay connected to Him, and never be uprooted, or blown away. If the forecast is cloudy with a chance of tribulations, don’t ask ‘Why me?’. Instead, remember God has made you like a palm tree. Bend down on Him and trust him to help you weather the storm!
