TGBTG
The message this past Sunday was the beginning of a three-week series by Alan on one of my favorite passages in the bible. The prayer of Jesus for his disciples. The theme of this series is TGBTG or To God Be The Glory. The part that struck me so much is Jesus’ clarity on what gives glory to God. What honors God? Verse 4 says “I have brought you glory by completing the work you gave me to do.” Simply find out the work that God has called you to do while you are on earth and do it. So how do you do that? This would start by serving in many different areas until you have clarity that God uses you whenever you do this particular thing. For example when I get opportunities to serve in the schools of Smyrna or the fields of Africa, I know God is using me and working through me. So I need to make sure that the best of me goes to these areas. To complete the work of serving in the schools and the city of Smyrna and caring for the poor of Africa. When I do these things I am completing the work of the Father and His name is being glorified. What has God called you to work at in His kingdom and are you on the road of completing that work? TGBTG!

I’ve tried to develop some sort of “mission statement” for my life. I’ve prayed, “Here am I, send me” and desired to be available to what his plan and purpose for my life is to be. But I have never seen it (as Huckabee suggests I should). I have never gotten a vision of my purpose or my ministry or my position in life. Seems I just go about doing whatever. Am I on the road of completing the work God has called me to do? I don’t know. Just like the Big Question of “Where did to OIL go?”, I ask “Where did my LIFE go and where is it going?” It’s a mystery. I sense God is smiling at me right now and saying “you don’t have to know, I have it all planned out. Wait and see. ” Lord help me, a “Type A” personality, to rest in this.
