There’s An App For That
I have a DROID. My cell phone life is complete. The available apps are endless. The other day I misplaced my phone. Typically when this happens I call my phone from my husband’s cell phone, and follow the ring a ling a ling until I find it. But this day was different. I was alone…….and my phone was on silent. After tearing the house apart looking for it I remembered that, “In a world that doesn’t, DROID does.” I’d downloaded a Droid locator app which allows me to send a text to my phone from the computer and override the sound settings. Perfect. I sent a text and followed the ring a ling ling until I finally found it in the garage in my car where it had fallen underneath my seat. Had I not remembered downloading that particular app, my DROID would mean nothing more to me than a glorified cell phone.
The only other item that has more apps than the DROID or iPhone is the bible. Think about it. “In a world that doesn’t, SCRIPTURE does.” Can’t you see this on a t-shirt worn by Alan?! Timothy spells it out clearly for us. Scripture is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training us in righteousness so that we will be thoroughly equipped for every good work. There are apps for how to be a good steward, faithful husband, loving wife, how to raise a child, how to be content in our circumstances, how to love each other well, the godly virtues that will produce good fruit in our lives, and the ultimate gift of salvation which has been freely given to us (free apps are always nice) through Christ our Savior.
The ‘app’ for you is to consider how to better use scripture so that your spiritual life is [more]complete. Download a bible app on your phone, read scripture, apply it to your life. Remember that it doesn’t matter how much you know, how many verses you memorize, how many times you’ve read the bible from front to back if you don’t APPly scripture to your life. I have scripture. My spiritual life is complete.

Just a couple years ago we could not have imagined this analogy to the application of Scripture, or compared it to God’s timeless ability to touch our lives and meet every need, exactly where we are.
“Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.” Matthew 24:35

Thanks for the comments, Bill and Alan! Rob, “forgetaboutit” with your misspelled word.

Angie: What a great metaphor….and so very true. Wouldn’t it be cool to see folks lining up for hours and miles to get the latest that the Bible has to offer. Shouldn’t we go to those lengths. Again, great word and thanks for the challenge. Great having you, Chris, and Jackson at CCC. Thanks for all y’all are and all you do. Take care, Doug (PS: Rob, you’re a freak.)
The only thing better than the USA winning their group and making the quarterfinals in the World Cup, is the thought that people would line up for 7-9 hours, as they did with the new i-phone, for the new scripture app. Maybe one day my friends. Until then all we can do is keep spreading the word…And keep cheering for the USA. Sorry for the cheap soccer input, couldn’t help it.
Angie
Great metaphor. I loved this and will be passing along to friends.
