Where to begin?
The more you pray the easier it becomes. The easier it becomes the more you will pray. – Mother Teresa
Sometimes getting started is the hardest thing to do. Even for those who have been following Jesus for sometime, a break in our friendship with Him (when we sin) can cause us to falter in our prayer life.
We know we should confess our sin but sometimes we are so discouraged that we have sinned, we are not sure where to begin. We wrestle with our failure instead of embracing the loving arms of our God. We know His promise, but we believe the evil one’s lie as He whispers, "Your not worth God’s love. Look at you, what a mess. Stop this nonsense. God won’t forgive you, why bother?"
Friends, Holy Scripture moves us to acknowledge and confess our sins with a humble heart that we may receive forgiveness of our sin, and by His goodness and mercy be restored to our intimate relationship with our Savior and our God. The following prayer is a General Confession and can be prayed when the words we want to say just won’t come…
Heavenly Father; I have strayed from your way like a lost lamb. I have followed the desire of my heart and I have sinned against you. I have not done those things that you have called me to do and instead, have done things in rebellion to your word. My spirit aches inside me, and I feel so alone. Dear God, I repent of my sin and ask you to forgive me. Restore me to my friendship with you through Jesus and for His sake by the power of your Holy Spirit; help me to live my life to please you. It is in Jesus name that I pray, Amen.

may God use this prayer powerfully, today, in people’s lives.
thanks, Jim.
Jim you are so right. Sin just gets in the way. Then we rationalize and think God must think the way I do. How could He forgive me I would not.The good news is he does. Thank you Lord.
this was a great reminder to daily confess sin so that I can be cleansed from all unrighteousness. most days I forget to do this, thinking I’m a pretty good person doing a pretty good job on my own… then I wonder why I feel far from God, or get frustrated easily, or don’t see fruit in my daily life (the spiritual kind, not the 5-a-day kind
. thanks for sharing this prayer to give me a reminder, and even words to pray, when I need to humbly confess sin. And how awesome that God is so faithful every time to restore and renew my relationship with Him!
