He’s Got Our Back

I spent last Sunday morning running through the streets of Atlanta with 16,000 of my closest friends. I was participating in the ING Half Marathon. It is quite a spectacle to see that many people up that early to run that far. Another amazing part of the event are the spectators that come out to cheer the runners on. I have to admit it truly helps. When the adrenaline of the start has worn off; when the legs begin to feel heavy and worn down. That’s when an encouraging word really does wonders. Even a total stranger screaming, “You can do it!” can spur you on for another little while. The cheers certainly sustained me through the last part of the race. It’s always comforting to know there is someone in our corner; someone who wants the best for us. At times I have to remind myself that ultimately Jesus is that someone. He is our supporter, especially when we go to our Father in prayer. He is the one who really has my back. He’s the one who has my best interests in mind. When I take time to stop and think of Him in that way is when I also remember He is my comfort as well. It’s nice to have people cheering for you at times. But it’s best to have Jesus as my advocate.
