After reading these verses, an immediate thought is “These three guys had the right amount of faith, prayed for God to save them, and their prayers were answered.” And they lived happily ever after. That can be the focus of my prayers too often. Comfort. “Lord, keep me healthy, employed, fed and clothed. Do the same for all my family and friends. Lord, keep all conflict away. And if it does come my way, please have it work out in my favor.” If I’m praying right and the right amount of faith, it should all work out, right? But then I read those first six words of verse 18. “But even if He does not…” Wow, now THAT is faith! Trusting God even when things may not work out in the immediate future. Now, I will continue to pray for health, employment, etc. He wants us to come to Him with all these requests. But I will also trust Him if things don’t seem to be working out the way I had originally planned. His plan is always better.

Amen! Brother

Amen, Amen, Amen. This is exactly something I marinate on often. It’s easy for me to praise God when times are good and my prayers are being answered, but if/when I’m tested – REALLY tested – will I still praise and trust Him? I hope so!
