When you are an “infant” Christian, you’re not sure what to believe. You have the basics of the sinner’s prayer down, but now it’s time to dig in and learn what this Christian walk is really about. You buy books, listen to Pastor’s sermons, read your Bible, listen to teachings on the radio or friends in your community group….and ultimately hear so many “interpretations” of God’s Word that you end up more confused than when you started. But over time, the more you read the Bible, the more you pray for the Holy Spirit to reveal the Truth to you, the more you learn and grow in your walk. What once you wholeheartedly believed was “truth” when you first became a Christian, may later be revealed as false as you grow deeper and more mature in your walk.

If someone spoke an outlandish lie about your spouse that completely contradicts his/her character, how would you react? Doubt may creep in for a moment, but ultimately, you KNOW your spouse and know it’s a lie. You stand firm and say, “That is a lie!” and remove all doubt from your mind. This is how it should be with our Jesus.

There are a lot of false teachings out there and it’s easy to be swayed. On the surface it seems right, but if you dig just a little, you’ll quickly find that it’s not. One subtle difference makes ALL the difference. We need to be so close to the Word of God and the leading of the Holy Spirit, that when someone says something that is 95% correct and 5% twisted incorrectly, we feel the deceit instantly in our spirits and rebuke or correct the person. Satan is oh-so-subtle in his lies. In the desert, Satan tried three times to twist God’s word and three times Jesus rebuked him and recited the scripture. Satan deceived Eve this same way in the Garden of Eden. We need to have our guard up. We need to challenge people of “spiritual authority” (no offense Pastor Alan) by going back to the scriptures, talking with other mature Christians, praying and asking the Holy Spirit to reveal the Truth. We need to have God’s Word burned on our hearts so we can quickly say “No! God’s Word says this!” This can only be achieved by reading it over and over and over again… Let’s listen to the sound of pages flipping…
