Today's Passage: Jeremiah 29:10-13

Hey, we're Brooklynn and Lauren (18 and 15 years old). You probably know that our dad is the lead pastor at Cumberland, which isn't as much of a bad thing as you might think it is ;) We love being pastor's kids, and we consider ourselves really lucky to have grown up being very involved in the church and with awesome, encouraging people. Music is our thing, and is one of the reasons why we're in Kenya right now. We're super happy and excited that we're here!

Key Verse:
This is what the LORD says: "When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will come to you and fulfill my gracious promise to bring you back to this place. For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. - Jeremiah 29:10-13

Central Truth:
Our hope doesn't come from our earthly circumstances, but from our Father who cares for us.

Hard to Muster

Hope is pretty hard to muster. In a world like ours, it doesn’t really seem like there should be much of it. Things seem to be getting worse everyday; people here in America are losing their jobs, houses, you name it. In Kenya, people are living in shacks, living on a dollar a day, losing countless friends and family members due to the AIDS epidemic. Whatever the circumstances, we all need some kind of hope, and where else could that hope come from but from our Lord? We are so lucky to have a Lord that will take care of us, that will provide for us, that gives us hope. The Message translation of Jeremiah 29:11 says, “I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out-plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for.” While we are losing everything on earth, we can keep our hope our Heavenly Father who will not abandon us. He already has plans to give us the future we dream for. He is 100% there for us. Isn’t that such a cool thing? If we pray to Him, He will listen. If we seek him with all our heart, we will find Him. In our crazy, changing world, even though we are undeserving, we are blessed to have a constant in our life that gives us hope. Who wouldn’t want that?
