On Guard!
This is a very sobering verse. In this moment, Judas, a disciple chosen by Jesus and someone who could call on Jesus at any time, decided that he valued money more than he did the life of his Lord. In this passage, Judas’ betrayal and sin against God destroyed him.
Earlier in the text it said that Satan had “entered Judas” and had taken over.
It is a clear reminder that if we don’t address the sin in our lives, we are more vulnerable to Satan’s attacks.
This verse is an example of how someone close to Jesus can fall to the ways of Satan if sin is left unchecked. If we don’t constantly seek Jesus, then we may allow our sin to find a comfortable place in our lives. Which ultimately leads us to not having the relationship with Jesus that He seeks with us.
I’ve seen it in my life many times, but one that comes to mind is with fear. There are times when instead of looking to God to pray through my fear, I let Satan haunt me. During those times, it is a struggle to make the right choices.
That is why I am grateful that I am aware of the way sin wants to destroy the truth in our lives, and I am eternally grateful for the truth I know about Jesus. I am grateful that for the time I have in this “world” I am surrounded with a small group that gently presses me towards a greater knowledge and love of Jesus. I am grateful for my husband and his desire to lead our family in this truth. I am grateful for my friends that love me through my sins and show me Jesus when they do. I am grateful for my children that have so many questions about God and the Bible that I’m forced to go deeper in the Word. I am grateful for this Church and the way that it challenges us to get out of our comfort zone and to love our community in the ways of Jesus.

Kristin thank you for the great advice. Judas didn’t just one day wake up and say I am going to give Jesus to the authorities. He built up to it. I agree with you if you are around others who follow Christ they will spur you on to become more like Christ.
One way I prevent falling into the sin cycle is to not open the door to sin. I come from a family full of addicts so I stay away from alchol and drugs. I put bounderies around myself so I am not tempted.
Kristin,
As you well know, I too, struggle with fear and giving into it instead of turning to THE ONE who’s perfect love casts it out. Why do I let Satan win so many times instead of calling oh Jesus? Thank you for this reminder and for sharing your heart today!
And, I am grateful fo you and your friendship too!
Love,
MA
Dear friend Kristin: Thanks for sharing your heart through these words and challenging us to take an honest inventory of what our personal “funk” is (i.e., sin)…getting in the way of our having an intimate relationship with God through Christ. And furthermore, projecting what that looks like through Judas’ life…making it easier to give Satan control. My “funk” doesn’t come in the form of fear (at least not very often), but it does rear it’s head in the form of pride and worldly desires of acceptance, etc. “On guard”…no doubt. Thanks again my friend. It’s no secret that you, Chuck, Ella, Isabel, and Wesley are all near and dear to all the hearts of my family. God has blessed us in so many ways through our friendships. For that I am forever thankful.
