Where Does Giving Fit In?
In light of these hard economic times, for most people being on a fixed budget is almost mandatory. As you review your budget weekly, monthly or yearly, I am sure one thing is paramount in your mind…..where does giving to God fit in? Do you put it at the top, the middle or bottom of your budget? Perhaps it just won’t fit in at all. After all, these are hard economic times.
Giving is not like providing food, shelter or medical care where it’s easy to place a value on these things. After all, they are all necessary to sustain our lives. But, let’s take a minute and look at the spiritual side of our lives. What do we owe to God? My thoughts generally go like this….simply put, we owe him for everything we have, our very life, our health and well being, the beauty that surrounds us, our friends and loved ones….do you get the point? He created us and we are his forever. How can anyone put a monetary value on gifts like these?
If you are like me, every now and then someone has to hit me hard up beside the head to remind me it’s not about me, but all about Him. When you think about Him in this manner it’s easy to put God on the top of everything and all the lists you will ever make.
As you think about what to give, just reflect on your life, think with your heart, think about the sacrifice Jesus made for us, then write your check and it may be a little easier figuring how much that check should be. Maybe like the poor widow (Luke 21:4) at some time in your life. He may ask you to give everything you have. With him in your heart, you will be ready regardless of the economic times.

I struggle with this so much.I was penalized with 150 hrs of community service recently and was shocked to find out I could not serve them at any church or religious organizations.I have to think that has some nutty liberal reasoning behind it.In reference to Luke some days the best any of us can do is simply doing the next right thing or as Max Lucado says what would Jesus do? —-peace

Thanks Bill. These are great words of wisdom coming from a man who has lived a long and full life on both sides of God. Your insight is to be seriously considered by all. When we see Jesus as he should be seen .That is GOD. We should respond in great gratitute for dieing on the cross for us.
