Sometimes We Just Need To Play Follow The Leader
Reading this verse I often thought about how it said be an imitator of God. Well I was thinking about how Jesus lived his whole entire life on earth loving everyone equally. He loved the Believers the Non-Believers the tax collectors and the prostitutes all the same. Why aren’t we all always being imitators of God? Talking his talk, walking his walk, following our Master.
It often can be for the fact that we let (our) religion get in the way. We are all about telling everybody about (What I’m doing for God) when the verse said “Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not be partakers with them”. Well is what that is referring to is Religious smooth talk. People who are always selling religion to everyone but don’t live lives for God really at all. It says in “The Message” that it makes God furious. It’s not what we are doing for God; it’s what God is doing through us.
At camp this year we talked about choosing our friends. We are no better off having friends that that aren’t believers and that are not making wise choices than having someone in our lives that is just lying to God. I know people that are in front of people all about Jesus, this, that ,and the other, and 15 minutes later with a horrible mouth talking about what they did at the party the other night. At least the person who doesn’t believe in or know God isn’t trying to fool anybody.
Being a Christian is something we all need not to take for granted, we have a personal relationship with God. How cool is that? We need to stay in light not stumble into darkness, we all need to rise up and unveil Gods light to everyone, Keep pure love and remember who its all for, our one true God our Father Christ Jesus. Sometimes it can be a struggle, but keep in prayer for the love of God can radically change everything!

Loren it is very cool that a Holy God wants us His creation to abide, walk, do life with Him. Your point about “People who are always selling religion to everyone but don’t live lives for God really at all.” ie hypocrites has been a problem since I was your age. I remember admireing christian kids at my school putting them on pedestal and then seeing them turn their back on God. I have also stumbled and not walked my talk, I encourage you and remind myself that we are all sinners saved by grace, We are being changed as we follow Christ and His example. So today I want to keep my eyes on Christ and follow Him.
Thanks Loren for sharing! It’s been cool to watch you walk in the light this year. I really enjoyed the reminder of how awesome it is that the God of the universe actually wants a personal relationship with us! It is almost to wonderful for me to believe! Thanks for the reminder that God wants our hearts to be captivated by Him, and not just our actions influenced by Him.
Loren,
Thanks for the reminder this morning. I always slip back into thinking and focusing on myself. You helped me re-focus on God and remember that He is the source of all. I can do nothing without Jesus. So God works all this stuff through us and let’s us play a part. That’s almost as cool as having a personal and intimate relationship with the God of the universe.
Lord, please remind each of us throughout today that you are the source of all. Remind us to stay focused on you so we will not stumble over ourselves or the trivial things of this world.
Thanks for sharing a great message today Loren. God will bless you for your faithfulness and hunger for more of Him. May God shine his light in me today and may my reflection be full of his image and empty of my own additions.
Loren,
Thanks for the timely reminder: I’m very much a part of the soundbyte/quoting culture and it’s almost effortless to slip into “obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking.” Conversation by assembly has become an unfortunate norm, and this verse and your encouragement both move me toward a more conscientious guarding of my speech. A simple but profound and pragmatic incarnation of the renewing of our minds…
religious smooth talk… wow.
thanks for that slap! needed it. it’s so easy to manage my Christian image with just “right” words — but it really requires a right life fully connected and surrendered.
And… with what I just wrote — are those just words?
thanks, Loren.

“It’s not what we are doing for God; it’s what God is doing through us.”
