Today's Passage: Luke 19:24-27

I am Mike Thurman, and I have the greatest wife in the world (Sherri), the greatest little boy (Andrew), and the greatest job in the world (youth pastor at CCC).

Key Verse:
Then he said to those standing by, 'Take his mina away from him and give it to the one who has ten minas.' 'Sir,' they said, 'he already has ten!' He replied, 'I tell you that to everyone who has, more will be given, but as for the one who has nothing, even what he has will be taken away. But those enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them—bring them here and kill them in front of me.' - Luke 19:24-27

Central Truth:
We lose what we don't use.

Use it, or lose it…

Jesus said, take his gift away and give it to him (paraphrasing). What if on your next birthday, you open a great present, and then it is taken from you and given to someone else? What would you do? What would you say?

What if you are a great baseball player at 8 years old, but you don’t see the need to practice and improve? Could you play high school baseball, as a great 8-year-old player? Could you play professional baseball, as a great 8-year-old player? A great 8-year-old baseball player has the potential to become a great professional player if they grow and mature in the sport; if they use and perfect the ‘gift’ that they have been given. If they don’t use the ‘gift’, they will lose it, and someone else will take their place in being the great professional baseball player. Why is it so easy, to see ‘gifts’ in relations to sports and other things, but not in relations to spiritual things?

Living things need to be nurtured, watered, and feed, so that they can grow and mature. Without nurturing, watering, and feeding living things wilt, grow weak, and lost strength. Is our faith a living thing? Are spiritual gifts living things? Thoughts?

I love the analogy with sports. It does take practice to improve. If you don’t try you won’t suceed. Thanks for the challenge. Lord I want to grow today show me what you want me to do.
