The biggest no-brainer in the history of earth.
I’ve heard this advertisement on the radio for some financial company that has the tagline: “The biggest no-brainer in the history of earth.” Well, if anything deserves that tagline, it’s gotta be the worship and praise of the Lord our God. This passage repeats a theme that is common throughout the Psalms and the entirety of scripture – “PRAISE HIM! HE’S AWESOME!!!”
I love how the reasons given for praise are so fundamental. First off, he’s “the Rock of our salvation”. I mean, come on, what else could be more worthy of shouting aloud other than the redemption of our very souls? Then the psalmist goes on to emphasize the supremacy of the Lord through using “the” a couple times: “the great God” and “the great King above all gods.” There is no other! Our God… He’s it. The God. The King. The Big Kahuna. How can we not sing and shout and give thanks and play music to the One who’s worthy of it?
If that’s not enough impetus for worship, then the next couple of verses definitely hammer it in: God’s role as Creator. He’s behind the earth’s depths, heights, seas, and dry land. Who has looked at the greatness, the vastness and beauty of the earth and not been remotely reminded of God? ”For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities – his eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that mean are without excuse.” (Romans 1:20) My favorite times to reflect on God’s greatness as Creator are when I’m surrounded by His creation and can’t see buildings or cars or anything man-made. When I stand in the middle of a bustling city with busy noise and towering skyscrapers, I don’t want to spontaneously shout: “Humans are awesome!” But when I go on a hike in north Georgia, stand on a hilltop and watch the colors of the sky dance through a progressing sunset, something within me always stirs with this yearning to recognize the Creator and praise Him for being Him.

Yesterday, I was so moved by God from the starting music all the way through, well, even now I have been changed. I started off the day now knowing how it was going to turn out. It was Father’s Day as you know and I have not seen or heard from my Father in twelve years. The last time I tried was when my son was born. I called him and told him that he did not have to see anyone else in the family, but that I truly wanted him to see his grandson and talk with him. We planned to meet at a diner. I waited for three hours past our time and decided that he must have been held up with something else ro surely he would have been there.
Sorry, I had to get that out.
From the moment I walked into the church, I was surrounded in love and caring. My smile got bigger and the hugs got longer. I cried in happiness and awe of our Lord from the oprning movie until I got home. At least the tears stopped. I consider myself blessed to have seen such amazing glory adn power. To have witness so many spontaeous baptisms, to have been there with the closing music and to celebrate God. I was soaked and happy to be that way.
way to celebrate FATHER’S Day, Candy!
