Resolute

“Jesus took the Twelve aside…” Jesus reminds the Twelve where they are going, maybe because so many things have happened since Luke 9:51, or re-focus them on the last part of the journey. Follower, how intimate Jesus is with us! You have been ‘taken aside’ and been ‘set apart’ from this world! Jesus reveals things that He does not tell others. And He has already told you where you are headed (John 3:16; 14:1-4). Have you forgotten or lost your focus because so many things have happened since you became a believer?

“We are going…” Not ‘I am going’ or ‘You are going’, but ‘HIM and YOU’. He wants to share His life with, and He has again resolutely set His mind to take you to the heavenly Jerusalem. This is a journey, and many things happen along the way; but you will never be alone, you will never be forsaken, and you will be given everything you need (Rom 8:28-39, 2 Cor 12:9-10). Have you made your Christian life about your righteousness, your service, your faith? Chosen One, it was His Righteousness and His Works that makes you acceptable to God!

“Everything written…will be fulfilled”
The scripture does not say ‘might be’ or ‘probably will’, it says ‘will be’. Believer, do not be surprised when you face trials or troubles or valleys along the way. God has already ‘prophesied’ them! (Matt 5:11-12, John 17:13-19, Rom 5:3-4; 8:17-18, James 1:2-3, 1 Peter 4:12-16, 1 John 3:13) These things happen because He has yoked himself to You, and loves you enough to transform your life into His; to let your life be a witness for Him; to further the Kingdom of God through your life. Jesus does not want to protect you from those circumstances, but wants to use you in those circumstances. Have you been reading the Word so you will know and be prepared for what is to happen? Oh, what glory awaits us when we reach our destination!

In Luke 9:51, Jesus “resolutely” sets out for Jerusalem, meaning, he has purposed and resolved in His mind that nothing will deter Him. Resolve in your mind again today that this journey with Jesus is of highest importance, and let nothing deter you from following Christ.
