God Breaks
Jesus was on a mission. He had a plan. He knew what had to be done. Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem to fulfill the will of his Father. His path took him through Jericho. At first glance, it seems as if this verse is emphasizing that Jesus was intent on moving through Jericho to get to his destination with no sightseeing, resting, or other diversions. He was just passing through.
How many times in life have I had a plan for my life or my day? How many times have I been so intent on following my plan that I have been irritated by interruptions? Can you relate? Just recently, I was at work and had my whole day planned out to the minute in order to accomplish as much as I could in my limited amount of time. It was about halfway through the day and I was priding myself on how efficiently I was working my plan when a colleague interrupted with a simple question. That question led to a conversation which caused me to start feeling irritated at the fact that I was wasting so much of my limited time and not following the plan that I had made. Next thing I know, God’s still and quiet voice was speaking to me and showing me how this colleague was hurting and needed someone to listen right then at that very moment. God used me to encourage her and to remind her of God’s plan for her life. The funny thing is the same words that I used to encourage her, God used to encourage me.
Moments like these are what I call “God Breaks”. I am learning that I can make all the plans I want, but God is ultimately in control of my life. He has the right to delay, detour, or even alter my plans in order to accomplish his will. Don’t just pass through your life or your day without being open to those “God Breaks”. Learn with me to look forward to and rejoice in them.

God Breaks and God Detours are difficult for a type A, organized and overly controlling person like myself. But, your central truth could not be more true: God’s plan is better than mine.
Thanks Sherri…love this and couldn’t agree with you more.
God, please help me see the day for what it really is…for what you have orchestrated it to be. Please forgive me when ME and my plans and my stuff get in the way. The life you have for me is so rich…thank you, thank you, thank you. Please help me better tap into that.

Sherri, Thank-you I call them devine appointments but I like God breaks too. I too want to be open to what God has instore for me. Rejoice when plans are changed and enjoy the journey. It isn’t the destination that is important it is my attitude and actions getting there. Love one another enough to stop and tell them or show them Jesus.
