A child’s perspective
When the people of the town heard that a famous rabbi was traveling through the area, a crowd would often go out to see him. Whole families would head out to spend the day. As a father, it is easy to envision parents wanting to bring their children to receive the blessings of a respected rabbi. Like all parents I want the best for my child. I understand that God’s blessings on me and my family are an amazing gift of His love.
But even the oldest children couldn’t fully grasp what was going on that day. As a child, they heard the rabbi telling stories that didn’t quite make sense. These stories differed from those told by the other rabbis. These were stories of church leaders and tax collectors; people who their parents spoke about at the dinner table. But unlike at dinner, the rabbi was praising the tax collector. Mom and dad probably NEVER did that. It must have all seemed a bit confusing, especially when the disciples started rebuking mom and dad. Why COULDN’T they meet the rabbi? From a child’s perspective, the whole scene just didn’t make sense. But then Rabbi Jesus held out his hands and said, “Let the little children come to me”. A few babies probably cried while he held them. Some older children ran into His arms with glee. Can you imagine being held in the arms of the rabbi… in the arms of Jesus!
Jesus saw the children and wanted them to come to him. Not just the ones being carried that day but ALL God’s children. Like those children, sometimes things seem a bit confusing to us. There are days where things just don’t make sense. Even the wisest of us can’t FULLY grasp what is going on, but our Father does. All we must do is trust in Him because God fully understands the blessings and eternal life that are being offered when we receive the kingdom of God as His children. Do you trust in the Lord? Are you running into the arms of Jesus today?

Children are a wonderful gift from God. I find I can learn a lot from them. Their faith in what they are told is amazing. May I believe God today like a child. God does love all his children.
I am a child of God and I also have a child of God. I look to my son for wisdom is ohow to be simple. How to not take things to seriously. Love fully, trust faithfully, and laugh for no reason.
Does God look at me the same?
Thanks Patrick. I was thinking as I read…… that all children do or want to see adults through respectful eyes. What a gift if all of us adults put our arms out to the kids at church each week and let them run into our arms, What a sense of love and acceptance that child would have. “An adult noticed me!”
