So, You’re telling me to steal a donkey?
When I first read this passage, my initial thought was, “thanks for giving me the passage about stealing horse,” (which I later found out a colt could actually referring to a baby donkey in this story, not a horse) but after my initial shock I actually thought it was a really cool verse. Jesus asked two of his disciples to go to a village and get the colt that they will find tied there and bring it back to Him. He says that if anyone asks why they are taking it simply to tell them, “the Lord needs it.” Imagine that happening today. Walking up to someone’s house and just ripping off his or her new baby donkey and then telling them “the Lord needs it.” I dare you to try that. But, all joking aside, I think the question this passage is really challenging us to listen to the Lord’s prompting and find out what He needs from us. Does He need us to remove some things from our lives? Does He need us to invest in some people we may not necessarily want to invest in? My challenge to you today is to really silence the busy-ness in your life and figure out what the Lord needs from you.

Leah, thanks. Blessings to you and Chris in your marriage. Y’all fit – if I am making sense to you.
Some folks seem to have an inside track on spirituality and on getting a “Word from the Lord,” about doing one thing or another. I personally have a difficult time figuring out if He is actually speaking to me or not. Some would say that proves I’m not so spriritual. I check into the Bible when in doubt. Regardless, this verse really challenges my preconceptions – “Thou shalt not steal” would have prevented me from obeying Jesus command. So I have to reconsider GOD’s command.
I think given where most churches and Christians are today, the challenge would be do I want to soil myself with that person, when I am supposed to “keep unspotted from the world.” It’s impossible to save a life or a soul by keeping your hands clean.
Leah thank you for the word of challenge today. I do sometimes say “you want me to do what?” Last rainy Friday I was in Starbucks drive thru (so no image to protect just coffee) I was grumbling to myself about all the things that had to be done that day plus carpool in the rain. I was sitting there getting ready to pay and remembered others are also in the rain trying to get to work and probably grumpy too. So I thought I would treat the car behind me to coffee. So when I was paying I asked to pay for the guy behind me. I still did carpool in the rain but my day started out sunny (and wet). When God put things in my head I sometimes ignore them and miss out on the blessing. You are right we need to listen to God. So shut the world out and listen today.
Leah, you make me laugh!! Thank you for the challenge today. I am guilty of getting stuck in my little world and tend to forget that God has a greater purpose for my life.
God, help me to be sensitive to your calling for me….even when it doesn’t feel comfortable or make sense.
It seems to me that we are being shown to use what is available and if we don’t, then maybe someone will take whwat we have away from us. Maybe it is not so much about “stealing” as it is about sharing the wealth. If someone has a horse, donkey, car (for example) that is not being used, maybe that resource should be given to a place that would actually use it.
Love it love it. How many times has God asked me to do something that I didn’t understand, making me hesitant to obey. Yet, as I struggle with my own son’s lack of obedience (because he doesn’t understand the ‘why’), I am constantly reminded that it’s not always important to understand the ‘why’ right now. God asks us to obey, no matter what.
Wow! I didn’t read this when it was written, but instead I was drawn back to read it because of today’s (Tuesdays) posting which is also about the command to obedience regarding the donkey–and it surely confirms things the Lord is telling me…just now! Amazing how much we at CCC are being blessed by this exchange on Feeding One Another, and how He is drawing us together as a Church through this technology at at time when “community” is so spread out that we rarely have the chance to physically meet. So, I say to you, Leah, my name is Caroline Debs, and I, too, love Jesus! It is great to meet you and your husband Chris–via FOA, and hope to meet in reality one day soon. I look forward to hearing of your other experiences in Kenya.
