No more seat warmers…

At first, looking at these 2 verses I was like, how in the heck am I going to write about this? I read it over many times and finally broke it down. The 12 disciples sat down and decided that it was not right to neglect studying/teaching the word of God to wait on tables or feeding the poor. If you read a few verses beforehand they were being bogged down by these every day tasks (although important tasks) and basically tearing the church apart. They asked the congregation to choose 7 spirit filled men to take on the authority to work as representatives in a special task of feeding the poor. They asked them as a whole to 1. Find a solution to commit to one another as a church and 2. to help minister and grow the church by preaching/teaching and 3. PRAY.

As I think about this and try to relate this back to us, I see that at CCC we have an awesome staff! Without Alan and all the people behind the scenes, we wouldn’t have the great Church we have without them.

It’s a big task to prepare for church every Sunday, lots of planning and lots of volunteers. Everything from creative, to music, to the children’s ministry, greeters, etc, etc. You get the idea? We have our great leaders (pastors/elders/staff) and then we have the congregation (helpers/volunteers). I believe that this passage is about God wanting us to be good stewards. To not want to overload our leaders/teachers, but to help them focus on preaching/teaching the word of God. Instead of sitting back and basically being seat warmers on Sunday, he has given each and everyone of us gifts and abilities to use at church so we can build up his church.  The reason for church is for us to grow and learn from each other. We ARE the church, we need to represent Christ in every aspect of our lives, whether we are at home, out with friends, at work, ON THE ROAD in TRAFFIC :) or even out shopping. We minister the word of God not only through our words but ALOT through our actions.

Let’s not forget about Prayer either. It is SO important that we remember to do this, especially for our leaders. And leaders can mean anyone from Pastors, Elders, President’s, Teachers, Parents, etc. Pray that they too will make the right decisions. It’s a huge task and we need to remember to not take it lightly. More and more as I am a single young lady with no family, I look to my church to be MY family. We basically need to FEED ONE ANOTHER with our knowledge, prayers and worship. So I’m very thankful to receive this passage and to write about it and will continue to support each one of you.
