Jesus Feeds His Disciples

When we follow Jesus, and truly believe in him, he will provide what we need whether we know we need it or not. In an earlier passage we find Simon Peter and some of the other disciples going out to catch some fish. While they are out in the boat, Jesus comes to them with not only fish, but bread and fire as well. He provided everything they needed to break their fast.

How often do we hear of “random acts of kindness” In the news, at work, and in casual conversations. However, if we are truly followers of Jesus we should perform these acts not randomly, but as a regular occurrence. We are the tools Jesus uses to reach out and connect to people. There are opportunities all around us to help others, all we have to do is open our eyes to see and our ears to hear. (I think I’ve heard that phrase before) But we must always remember and acknowledge that it is God who gives us the means to help. As Jesus provides for us, it is incumbent upon us to in turn provide for others.

Sometimes it’s a little difficult to put our faith in this central truth. If you are suffering in these economic times it would be easy to question His provision for us. If you are losing your IRA, your home is being foreclosed, or if you are unemployed the negative thoughts come easily. I know this from experience. But I have to look at the bottom line. Am I going hungry? No. Am I living out in the cold? No. Am I alone and without hope? Never. Am I being harassed, persecuted, or jailed because of what I believe? No. Bottom line: I’ve got it pretty good. Because I have Jesus, and He has me.
