I Didn’t Do It! He Did It!
The key to doing Revelation 4:10-11 is understanding Galatians 2:20-21: “ I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me”.
A crown signifies honor bestowed to a person for royalty, glory, or victory. In examples from the New Testament, crowns symbolize rewards for striving to live a life worthy of Christ (1 Cor. 9:25), living righteously (1 Tim 4:8), endurance against temptation (James 1:12), and service (1 Peter 5:14). On the surface, this seems good and right, it’s what we’ve earned, and our reward for living a righteous life, our victory for not giving into fleshy temptations.
However, remember what really happened…
When we were tempted and cried out to Jesus for help—and we did not succumb;
When we were on our knees in times of trial—and the grace and mercy of Jesus brought us through;
When we asked for guidance and wisdom in situations we could not handle—and we were complimented for a job well done;
When we saw the results of our obedience and were in awe at what God did through us.
Do you remember how you praised God and admitted that you could not have done any of those things without Him? After a while, we forget that and begin to take pride in our faith, our righteousness, and our obedience.
But Paul says “YOU have died! It is Christ who lives in you!” These things you did not do, but it is Jesus Christ living His life through you. When we truly come into His presence (at the throne) and feel His touch, we know instantly that we did not do all these things, and all the Honor, Glory, and Praise deserve to be on Him.
Can you daily cast your crowns at the feet of Jesus? That is, all your reward, honor, and glory are continuously passed on to Him so that it becomes a habit to say, “I didn’t do it! He did it!”
